Lavenham Carpet Bowls Club
We are a friendly club and meet at 9.45am for a 10am start on a Tuesday morning at Lavenham Village Hall to play Carpet Bowls. You do not need to have played before and most people pick it up very quickly, and tuition is available. It is similar to outdoor bowls as you have to try to get your bowl close to the jack (white ball), but it is played indoors on a long carpet. All equipment is provided including rakes and poles to retrieve balls and is accessible to all. There is a round obstacle block in the middle of the carpet, but this can usually be avoided as the bowls have a natural bias and when bowled can be made to curve or go straight towards the jack.
It is a fun game and if you wish you can take part in friendly matches with other local villages. This is always a good social event as after the match we normally have a buffet and a raffle. We also run in-house competitions annually, but you do not need to enter these unless you wish to. We also run a session on most Thursday evenings which starts at 7.15pm for the 7.30pm session, although we do play some of our friendly matches on Thursdays so please check before coming on a Thursday with the club secretary/team captain on 01787 247805. We welcome new members to either or both sessions, and your first two sessions are free so you can see if you would enjoy carpet bowls.
We look forward to seeing you.
